According to their website, “As a large and diverse public college with four campuses across Toronto, we have a reputation for exemplary teaching, innovative programming and extensive industry partnerships… Centennial provides you with both the education and the practical skills you need to succeed.”
Centennial is the oldest community college in Ontario, and has a great reputation as one of the most culturally diverse post-secondary institutions in the province.

Hi “acrosstheuniverse”. Thanks a lot! I applied for Post-Graduate Diploma in Project Management. I did apply to 2 other colleges like Humber & Seneca. Hey do you live in Canada? If so, you could give me a lot of tips, which could be really helpful to me; like Canadian lifestyle, about local people, the climate, and related issues. So that I can be well prepared before going to Canada. Keep in touch, Bye.

Hi Vikalp,
Great to hear from you. It’s awesome that you asked about Centennial because I just happened to grow up in the town it’s located in! The climate is very moderate most of the time, but you will find that the winter gets sort of nippy. You may not find a lot of winter gear to pack in India, however there are many malls around that area where you can go and shop for what you need to keep warm. The local people are friendly and you’ll find there are lots of students around to meet and interact with. There is actually a large population of Indian students and their families that live within the Centennial area, so don’t be shy to bring music and cultural comforts from home. There’s also a great roti place a couple blocks away from the college that is famous for it’s spicy and delicious meals. :)

Thanks to both you for being such a good guide! I’ll surely go through the “lessons about canada”. I believe that its better to know from people who really experience certaing conditions, than to consult from a consultant. As those who have gone through such situations can guide you in the best way. Hey, could you give me a rough estimate of how much would it cost, to live in canada, for a year?;keeping aside finances related to college. I am talking about basic requirements, like house rent,food,clothing,etc…i.e. daily needs. I want to know, especially, about cost of living in Toronto, as I am going to live there.

Hi Vikalp,
I can give you a quick summary about my personal living expenses. Yours may be a bit different if you decide to stay in residence, however you can take the information here and try to apply it to your own situation.
Rent: $550 a month (I live right in the downtown core, so your rent will probably be a bit different since you’re more on the East side of the city if you still choose Centennial)
Food: $100 a week (you can bring this down by holding off on more expensive purchases like meat and cheese, plus this involves going out for lunch in the city which is about $10 per meal, if you cook more of your own meals this will lower)
Clothing: $50 a month (if that, I don’t really buy too many clothes really, some may budget more in this area.)
Entertainment: $70 a week (this is relative to your situation. I like to go to concerts and movies so it’s a little higher for me than some)
If you choose Centennial will you be living in residence? Or are you going to try to find an apartment or rental for the year?

Thanks for the reply! You said that the rent in Eastern area is different; so does it mean its less than or more than $550? And I am also considering Sheridan College. Can you tell me something about that college as compared to Centennial College?

The Eastern area should be less expensive than the central downtown area (although I think Krista’s place is a steal, plus summer rentals for a few months are usually cheap, so it’s hard to tell).
Although I’m not personally familiar with either institute, I could find some information for you. Sheridan College is a polytechnic institute, concentrating a lot on the technical and technological aspect of teaching and learning. Centennial College is a community college, so it values diversity and community as a positive learning environment. Both colleges are very welcoming to international students and can lead you in the right path to a career.

Hi oLahav. Thank you for the reply. I couldn’t find the program, which I want to pursue, on Sheridan college’s website. So now I am not considering that college. Humber college has the program of my choice. I have applied in that college. But as I haven’t given TOEFL yet, so they have kept my apllication on a waiting list. I also want to know a little more about Humber, other than what’s there on their website…i.e. as compared to Centennial College. Keep in touch!

Humber is a Polytechnic, similar to Sheridan. Unfortunately I’m not personally familiar with any of these colleges, so I can’t really give you honest information. I think you should just select the one that seems best to you through the websites and the way they’ve dealt with your applications. Good luck with everything.

I gues Centennial would be the best bet for me. Its a good college with strong industrial tie-ups. I am also looking for MBA in aviation, but can’t find any college which offers this program. If you come across any college offering this program please let me know.

Hi Vikalp11,
I went through their website and from what I can understand, you will be looking at roles that are typically below the Engagement Manager level – i.e., you will be leading a project but perhaps won’t be directly interacting with the client. In management jargon, I guess that would be somewhere around “middle management”.
Their website does not seem to have a lot of information on placement statistics. I guess you might want to mark an email to them. You can find their contact information here.
Hope it helps.

Vikalp,
Since information is not available on their website, I guess we would have to go by the industry average salaries. I guess sites such as vault.com will have this data.
I will try to look for some info. on Engineering management programs in Canada and will get back to you.
Cheers, Avinash

Hi Vikalp11,
You might want to take a look into the University of Waterloo. This well-known Engineering institution in Canada offers Graduate Studies within the Faculty of Engineering.
I see you’re interested in Management. Waterloo in fact, has a Management Sciences program under the Engineering discipline. I encourage you to explore the web site. From there, you can access more information on the program among other related studies.
If you have any further questions, I’d be happy to address them.
Good luck!

Hi Koolkamo,
Congratulations on your recent applications to Humber and Centennial College! Marketing is a very exciting field. Both schools you mentioned offer quite a relevant curriculum. Humber College offers a work placement during its academic program, whereas Centennial College does not. Having work experience while completing your studies, is not only a source of income, but you’ll also be placed in a working environment that will give you real exposure and where you apply what you learn in class.
In terms of area, the Humber’s Lakeshore campus is right at the heart of downtown Toronto. There are restaurants of vast cultures, and you will certainly find the Entertainment District to live up to your night life standards.
If you have any more questions, I’d be happy to address them.
Good luck!

Dear nasirkhan, you can definitely consider doing an MBA from Centennial. Centennial offers three types of diplomas in Business administration. The following companies hire the graduates from this college
- Bell Canada
- Coca-Cola
- Enbridge Gas
- Harry Rosen
- Honda Canada
- Securities Canada
- Scotia McLeod
- The Hudson’s Bay Co.
- Wal-Mart
You can click here for more information regarding the same. Also I heard that Humber and Seneca have a better reputation than Centennial.
All the best

Dear nasirkhan,
Most of the 2 year PG diplomas are equivalent to MBAs and it also depends upon the reputation of the college. For instance IIMs offer Post Graduate Diploma Program in Management where as the top B-Schools in US and abroad offer MBA degree.

Hello shaziakhan,
George Brown College would have a Career Resource centre that helps you to find employment upon graduation and that is a great resource. From looking around their website I haven’t seen an indication that a placement or “co-op” program is available for the HR Certificate – but check with your contacts at the school for an official answer.
George Brown College does have daycare on campus through it’s early childhood education program. Learn more about these Daycare labs here There would also be many other daycare providers in the area as it is a downtown toronto campus but I do not know about availability or cost.

Hi desani,
Thanks for using LearnHub’s Study in Canada message board! I hope you find LearnHub to be useful to you.
I know that there is definitely a lot more competition to get into the Design program at Sheridan as it’s program had a great reputation and it’s students are recruited for jobs quite a bit. I don’t know too much about the other Design programs at the other schools in terms of reputations. Your best resource is to email the school admissions team or career centre and ask them for previous statistics on the placement rates and careers of past graduating classes for each program.
Waiting until next year might be a good option if it will help you to save up more money, apply to more schools, and take more time to fully consider all of your options. The economy around the world may be getting better by then as well which means more jobs!
