As I’ve mentioned in this discussion, most Canadian universities require GRE for admission, especially when it comes to international students. It’ll be an asset to have a good GRE score when applying. TOEFL is also important, so it’s good that you’re preparing for it.

Canada has some great MS universities. Don’t forget to check out our Canadian School Finder and see if you can find any program that fits you.

Taking the TOEFL would be the first step for sure. If the schools you’re interested in are not requiring the GRE, then you may choose not to take it. I would probably contact the school just to make sure. Several schools do not require it as entirely necessary, but they recommend it for admissions. In that case the decision whether to take it or not is up to you, but taking it will put you in a more competitive position on a spot in the program.

In general, unless taking the GRE would result in you missing application deadlines, or if studying for it will pose a major burden, I believe that taking it can’t hurt and may help you in getting into a school. But of course, this decision would depend on your individual situation.

Dalhousie is a member of the G-13, one of Canada’s top research facilities, and is a highly respected institution. Ryerson is similarly quite well-known and is located right at the heart of Toronto.

Hi Sujana,

For starters, you can start looking at the directory of schools on LearnHub. You will find schools suiting your academic requirement.

Cheers!

Hi Nileshb,

I’m glad to hear that you’re interested in studying at Dalhousie!

For September 2009, Dalhousie encourages you to apply by March 15, 2009. Applying early means that you will be considered for scholarships and allows sufficient time for your study permit to be processed.

Dalhousie Admission also notes, “Though certain programs admit students in January, we recommend that international students arrive at Dalhousie in September, at the start of the school year. That way, you can take advantage of our welcoming events and activities, and learn first-hand about our legendary Maritime hospitality!”

Here’s a list of Application Deadlines you should be aware of:

• March 15 – To be considered for entrance scholarships.
• April 1 – International students – September admissions.
• September 15 – International students – January admissions.

Keep in mind, some programs have specific deadlines. Where space is available, applications will be considered after the deadline on a case-by-case basis.

In terms of other schools, if you refer to your previous post in the discussion Canada for JAN, 2009 intake for MASters of Engg in Computers, you’ll see that I have responded to your inquiry and have suggested a number of schools for you.

Hope that helps.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks!
