    Hi,

In Canada, a PhD or a doctoral degree program is a high level master's degree program that usually requires four to seven years of study on full time basis. The PhD degree is offered to students from the higher educational Institutions of Canada after a disciplined research work and submission of thesis based on the research work. The minimum requirements to get PhD admission in Canadian higher educational Institutes normally are:

    • A master's degree in the relevant subject,
    • At least two academic letters of reference, and
    • Other TOEFL, GRE or any other specified standardized test scores.

Doctoral programs are available at two different levels in Canada - Doctoral and Postdoctoral programs. Post-doctoral programs are much more specialized and research oriented programmes. One of the most vital features in granting post-doctorate fellowships in Canada is the personal network established between the interested applicant and the faculty member within the institution. There are different ways to avail the scholarships or funds for PhD programs. They come in different ways such as doctoral scholarships, fellowships, research and teaching assistantships, loans, personal savings and support from an employer and employment earnings among others. Depending on the program and the university, a doctoral aspirant might have to meet a performance requirements, produce a literary composition, research, write and defend a dissertation, report on research findings, publish research results or demonstrate proficiency in a second language in order to graduate to get the title of 'Doctor'.

For Ph.D, you are awarded a stipend that is sufficient to meet your living expenses. The stipend may vary from university to university. You should target for a TOEFL score 100+.

Here is the list of universities that offer M.S in Chemical Engg:

    University of Waterloo

    Queen's University

    University of Toronto

    University of Ottawa

    Hello,

Please elaborate your profile so that suitable universities can be suggested. However, for your reference please find below names of few Canadian universities that offer PhD in English (literature / language)

    Dalhousie University
    Queens University
    University of Ottawa
    Carleton University

Regarding the fellowship and the scholarship for PhD candidates, from I experience it is mutually decided between the candidate and the professor who supports your application.

As of now, since you are considering a PhD program, you could start by updating the professors about your profile so far, in the universities you are interested in. their response could help you move further.

    Good luck!

    Hi,
I've got admission in Carleton University in MA Economics for Fall 2010. I want to do PhD in future. Will it still require a GRE score to get into a Canadian PhD program if I have a Canadian MA degree? I haven't yet taken the GRE and GRE test pattern is also changing from next year. So I'm a bit confused.

    Hello,

Once you complete your MA, you still hold the status of an international student and for now take it for granted you will have to take the GRE again.

However, at times it is waived off depending from university to university in lieu of considering the same student by some professor for PhD, good GPA etc.

    Good luck for now!

    Hello,
PhD or doctorate degree is one of the most prestigious education degrees that people always dream of getting.
As per the data retrieved, it is now possible for you to pursue PhD course from a reputed university sitting at your home. Even if you are a professional and have quit studying a long time back you may opt for doing an online PhD degree course from a reputed educational institution. To pursue an online PhD degree course you would require an internet connection at your home. You will be asked to pay the course fees and other related charges and get everything from the internet. You just need to click on the website of the institution you have enrolled your name in and you will find everything there. Study materials and training tutorials are available on the websites of your institution and you will be asked to download it in your computer. Semester exams for online PhD degree courses are also held online making it comfortable to appear from home. Exams are held at regular intervals and you will need to answer your paper online. After the completion of your course you can submit your research paper online too.

However, before finalizing on the university ensure it is accredited and the degree awarded is recognized.

    Good luck!

    Hi,
I am an MBA from IIM Bangalore. I have 5 years of work experience. I want to join academics in Canada. Is it possible for one to get into a PhD program in a good Canadian University and teach the undergrad students while one is continuing research? Does the brand name of your institute in India give any advantage?

    Hello,

What you are referring to is termed as TA (Teaching Assistantship) in the US and the Canadian Education System.

Yes you can definitely avail this opportunity, provided the professor is willing to give you the same. For now you should begin with the selection of universities, updating the professors in the related department about your profile.

Regarding the brand name, IIM will definitely boost your application.

    Good luck!

The programs are competitive and higher grade point average (GPA) is required for admission.
Applicants with degrees/qualifications in a language other than English may need to demonstrate English Language Proficiency through one of the following exam scores:

    UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

    Hello,

As an introduction the M.phil is a Master's Degree of Philosophy. It's not the equivalent of a PhD, which is a Doctor of Philosphy, while the PhD is considered a more advanced degree. If you want to become a professor or a high-level researcher, for example, a PhD is going to be a huge help. For other positions, the M.Phil may be more than enough.

However, from all that surveyed I have not come across any Canadian university offering M.Phil in Pharmacology. If interested you may however consider the PhD program.

Do get back to us for further guidance.

    Take care!

    Hello,

The financial requirement varies as per the choice of the program in the university and from university to university. With regard to the financial aid, it is strongly recommended that you update the professors in the related department of the universities about your profile. If your profile interests them, they can offer you the best guidance. The candidates for a PhD are considered only if the department is willing to fund them. Precisely these factors can be closely discussed with the faculty members, if they show the necessary interest in your profile. Usually a profile for PhD is considered only if the university is willing to fund them. However, the financial assistance comes in different ways such as doctoral scholarships, fellowships, research and teaching assistantships, loans, personal savings and support from an employer and employment earnings among others.

Also, from all that I have surfed, I have not come across a satisfying response with regard to the choice of your program in Canada.

    Take care!

    Hi,

Universities in USA and Canada offer programs in Agriculture sector as Agricultural Economics , Agricultural Education, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Science. Do let me know your desired program and detailed academic profile , details, Masters details so that I can give you details accordingly.

PhD program in Canada is of 4-5 years.Universities mentioned above have an application deadline of 15th Sept for admission into January (Winter Session). You should have a good GPA score of 3.3-3.5 to get eligible for the same. An IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90 and above is the basic requirement for an international student.

Hi, You all have got a very good informative comments and questions. this help alot.

Hopefully, I will graduete by end of 2010 or by jan 2011. I am taking Master in software engineering and my minor is BA in Finland.

Aside from Phd positions in Europe, I am looking for Phd position for the fall 2011 in my field. It may be anything related to IT or IS.

Full Fund is provided in EU, so I dont need to pay for university and will be hired as employee and will be paid monthly. No matter where you are in Europe, and what project you work on, you are being paid, as long as you are accepted in the position. Phd program is 3 to 4 years in EU depending on the project.

Firs of all, I need to know if universities in canada provide this fund for Phd students??

    2. what are the universities supporting my field of study for Phd??

    3. what are the admission requirements and are they accepting Phd students from outside canada??

    4. is there any specific period of time to apply for Phd position??

I appriciate your valuable time for answering to my questions.

    Hello,

We can definitely help you search for universities that help you meet your career goals and suit your profile as well.

However, to justify the list we seek elaborated information in terms of the test scores, academic background etc. Though you are aspiring a PhD in Community Development, I would recommend that you go through the different course structure and analyze what suits your profile and interest.

You may however, fill out the School finder Form-Canada and seek professional guidance for the next course of action.

You may also contact our counselor Amit Wadhwa, +91-9818566611, or mail at amit.wadhwa@learhub.com for further guidance.

    Take care!
