Doctoral programs are available at two different levels in Canada - Doctoral and Postdoctoral programs. Post-doctoral programs are much more specialized and research oriented programmes. One of the most vital features in granting post-doctorate fellowships in Canada is the personal network established between the interested applicant and the faculty member within the institution. There are different ways to avail the scholarships or funds for PhD programs. They come in different ways such as doctoral scholarships, fellowships, research and teaching assistantships, loans, personal savings and support from an employer and employment earnings among others. Depending on the program and the university, a doctoral aspirant might have to meet a performance requirements, produce a literary composition, research, write and defend a dissertation, report on research findings, publish research results or demonstrate proficiency in a second language in order to graduate to get the title of 'Doctor'.

Regarding the fellowship and the scholarship for PhD candidates, from I experience it is mutually decided between the candidate and the professor who supports your application.
As of now, since you are considering a PhD program, you could start by updating the professors about your profile so far, in the universities you are interested in. their response could help you move further.
Good luck!
Hi,
I've got admission in Carleton University in MA Economics for Fall
2010. I want to do PhD in future. Will it still require a
GRE score to get into a Canadian PhD
program if I have a Canadian MA degree? I haven't yet taken the
GRE and GRE
test pattern is also changing from next year. So I'm a bit
confused.
Hello,
Once you complete your MA, you still hold the status of an international student and for now take it for granted you will have to take the GRE again.
However, at times it is waived off depending from university to university in lieu of considering the same student by some professor for PhD, good GPA etc.
Good luck for now!

Hello,
PhD or doctorate degree is one of the most prestigious education
degrees that people always dream of getting.
As per the data retrieved, it is now possible for you to pursue PhD
course from a reputed university sitting at your home. Even if you
are a professional and have quit studying a long time back you may
opt for doing an online PhD degree course from a reputed
educational institution. To pursue an online PhD degree course you
would require an internet connection at your home. You will be
asked to pay the course fees and other related charges and get
everything from the internet. You just need to click on the website
of the institution you have enrolled your name in and you will find
everything there. Study materials and training tutorials are
available on the websites of your institution and you will be asked
to download it in your computer. Semester exams for online PhD
degree courses are also held online making it comfortable to appear
from home. Exams are held at regular intervals and you will need to
answer your paper online. After the completion of your course you
can submit your research paper online too.
However, before finalizing on the university ensure it is accredited and the degree awarded is recognized.
Good luck!

Hi,
I am an MBA from IIM Bangalore. I have 5 years of work experience. I
want to join academics in Canada. Is it possible for one to get
into a PhD program in a good Canadian University and teach the
undergrad students while one is continuing research? Does the brand
name of your institute in India give any advantage?
Hello,
What you are referring to is termed as TA (Teaching Assistantship) in the US and the Canadian Education System.
Yes you can definitely avail this opportunity, provided the professor is willing to give you the same. For now you should begin with the selection of universities, updating the professors in the related department about your profile.
Regarding the brand name, IIM will definitely boost your application.
Good luck!

Hello
well i see everyone here talking about Phd, would anyone mind
telling me about the M.Phil Pharmacology from Canada, the
requirements and the Expenditure?
I'm in last Prof. Pharm.D in Pakistan!
Thanks in Anticipation
Hello,
As an introduction the M.phil is a Master's Degree of Philosophy. It's not the equivalent of a PhD, which is a Doctor of Philosphy, while the PhD is considered a more advanced degree. If you want to become a professor or a high-level researcher, for example, a PhD is going to be a huge help. For other positions, the M.Phil may be more than enough.
However, from all that surveyed I have not come across any Canadian university offering M.Phil in Pharmacology. If interested you may however consider the PhD program.
Do get back to us for further guidance.

Hello
can you please tell me some universities in canada offering PhD in
Mechatronic engineering field. and how much amount of money i
shoulod have initially in my hand, how much is usually the
scholarships they pay
Hello,
The financial requirement varies as per the choice of the program in the university and from university to university. With regard to the financial aid, it is strongly recommended that you update the professors in the related department of the universities about your profile. If your profile interests them, they can offer you the best guidance. The candidates for a PhD are considered only if the department is willing to fund them. Precisely these factors can be closely discussed with the faculty members, if they show the necessary interest in your profile. Usually a profile for PhD is considered only if the university is willing to fund them. However, the financial assistance comes in different ways such as doctoral scholarships, fellowships, research and teaching assistantships, loans, personal savings and support from an employer and employment earnings among others.
Also, from all that I have surfed, I have not come across a satisfying response with regard to the choice of your program in Canada.
Take care!
